The 38th Federation of African Medical Students’ Associations (FAMSA) General Assembly (GA) is set to hold in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, from Sunday, November 3, to Friday, November 8, 2024.
The FAMSA General Assembly is an annual gathering of medical students from across Africa and provides a platform for discussions aimed at improving the healthcare system in Africa. It also creates an avenue to discuss the federation’s activities, review legislative rules, and hold elections for new executives.
According to a press release signed by Eniola Agunbiade, Head of Public Relations, FAMSA GA Local Organizing Committee, this year’s FAMSA General Assembly (FAMSAGA 2024) will revolve around the theme Aligning Global Practices with Local Realities for Healthcare Transformation in Africa.
The event will feature plenary sessions on nine key subtopics, abstract presentations, and interactive workshops hosted by FAMSA’s esteemed partners. She also notes that attendees will enjoy an exciting excursion, social activities, and a grand closing dinner.
According to her, “Overall, it promises to be a four-day experience filled with insightful discussions, ample networking opportunities, and a healthy dose of fun!”.
The Obafemi Awolowo University Medical Students’ Association (IFUMSA) will host this year’s General Assembly (GA), with a dedicated team of 11 hardworking medical students committed to making this event one to remember.
Among distinguished speakers confirmed to attend the event are Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Moris Atoki, CEO of ABC Health, Prof. Adeboye Adejare, Associate Professor at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, and Dr. Chris Onyebuchi Ifediora, Founder and President of the OCI Foundation, and a speaker from the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSMTH), London, among many others.
The FAMSA General Assembly 2024 seeks to foster an environment where diverse stakeholders can collaboratively shape an integrated and forward-thinking perspective on the future of healthcare, aligning local realities with the best global practices.
Agunbiade explained that a key objective is to promote active youth engagement, thereby empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders to play a central role in driving positive change across the continent.
