The Oyo State Government has issued a health alert following suspected cholera cases in the State.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi emphasised the need for heightened vigilance and precautionary measures to prevent a potential cholera outbreak.
During her visit to a private hospital in Ibadan where two suspected cholera cases were under treatment, Dr. Oluwaserimi highlighted cholera as a highly infectious bacterial infection transmitted through contaminated food or water.
She listed the symptoms as severe, acute watery diarrhea, dehydration, nausea, vomiting, and fever.
The Commissioner identified the suspected cases in Ibadan as male workers from Lagos State, linked to a construction site in Lekki Peninsula.
She assured the public that the Ministry, in collaboration with partners, is actively managing the situation to prevent casualties.
Oluwaserimi outlined response efforts, including the deployment of local government Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNO), media campaigns in English and Yoruba, activation of isolation facilities, intensified surveillance, and community sensitisation.
She urged the public to drink water from safe sources, practice proper hand hygiene and seek immediate medical attention if experiencing symptoms.
