A consultant nephrologist, Emeritus Professor Adewale Akinsola has stressed the need for a healthy working relationship among health professionals in the country for an effective health delivery system.
He added that specialized health training institutions should refocus training programmes in such a way as to allow personnel to adapt to local communities that mostly require the services they offer.
Speaking at the 2nd matriculation ceremony of Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, he said specialized institutions of learning need to rework their model to ensure teamwork among the various professionals in healthcare delivery.
“Specialized institutions like FUHSI should remodel training of professionals to focus on teamwork and easy adaptation to local communities. The era of a doctor feeling too important is no longer feasible.
“Every personnel in the healthcare delivery is very important and a sense of teamwork must be developed between them right from the period of training.
“Also, training of such health personnel should not be restricted to the teaching hospital but also at the various primary healthcare centers for easy adaptability to the local community”, he said.
In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akeem Lasisi while admonishing the newly matriculated students on the need to shun social vices, he said the University admitted 673 students out of which 439 are females.
“We have a strong department which has effective way of getting to the students. You must know the stand of the university on indiscipline and culture, we are not going to condone bully from few students at the detriment of larger population.
“We are clear about our direction over indiscipline, so any one of you that wants to misbehave should know that the management will not bend rules in dealing with you.
“You should also know that in the second matriculation of the institution, of 673 students admitted into 13 programmes, females constitute 63.7% of the population with 439.
The newly inaugurated Chancellor of the institution, Shehu of Dikwa, Alhaji Ibrahim El-Kanemi, pledged to serve diligently and advocate for students’ academic pursuits, personal development and aspirations.
