Recently, there was much uproar in the media (particularly social media) on the allegations of Deborah Abiodun, mother of an adolescent patient at the Lagos State University (LASUTH), Adebola Akin-Bright.
Deborah, in a viral video, had alleged that her son’s intestine got missing during a medical operation at LASUTH and called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to step into the matter. Based on Deborah’s viral video, public comments on social media had called it a case of ‘organ harvesting’.
While the Lagos State Governor has visited the boy and his mother and promised to take care of his medical care expenses, Dr. Tuyi Mebawondu, public health consultant and Publisher/CEO of Healthnika, enlightens the public on certain facts of Healthcare in Nigeria and why the boy’s case was rather a case of misinformation and not organ harvesting, as insinuated on social media. Dr. Tuyi Mebawondu was joined in the discussion by Dr. Rasheed Abbasi, Chief Medical Director of Men’s Heritage Clinic, who identified incompetence as an underlying issue in the unfolding drama. The interview was anchored by Ibraheem Shitta of TVC’s Breakfast Show. WATCH now.
