The National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Ogun state command has collaborated with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to curb the use of illicit drugs among students.
State Commandant, Ln Jane Odili, made this known while receiving the students’ body led by the NANS National Deputy Senate President, Comr. Elvis Segun Ekundina, PSM NIG. National President, Comr. Okereafor Bestman Opeyemi at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta.
The NDLEA boss described drug abuse as a major problem affecting students and youths population, not only in the country but in the diaspora; hence the need to join hands in curbing the spread.
She added that the abuse of drugs is a consequential problem that cannot be ignored as long as the society is increasing.
“According to a recent survey, 14.3 million Nigerians between the ages of 15 and 64 are drug addicts, it is a consequential problem that cannot be ignored as long as the society keeps increasing.
“One out of four of every drug user is a woman and one out of five is injecting this drugs into themselves especially Cannabis Sativa which is the most common.
“Adequate communication is needed and NANS is a critical stakeholder in the sensitization of the students and the youths”, she stressed.
